What to See at the 2014 Festival of the Arts BOCA

There are several noteworthy performances scheduled for this year’s Festival of the Arts BOCA, and choosing the best one might be a challenge. There will be musical performances, “authors & ideas”, and theatre. You can find the full schedule of events online, but we’ve highlighted a few which look especially interesting:

Violinist Itzhak Perlman

March 6th, 7:30pm at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

This multiple Emmy and Grammy award-winning violinist will perform a number of famous symphonies (including the classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture) alongside Festival Orchestra Boca. He is well-known for collaborating on the music for Schindler’s List, and is a true artist. Of course, Festival Orchestra Boca will be worth seeing it its own right.

Jazz Musician Arturo Sandoval

March 8th, 7:30pm at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

If you like Jazz trumpet, then this act will be a must-see at Festival of the Arts BOCA. He is well-known for his captivating live performances. In this concert, Arturo Sandoval will pay tribute to his mentor Dizzy Gillespie. The backdrop of Mediterranean architecture in Mizner Park is perfectly suited to Mr. Sandoval’s Cuban music influences.

Author Daniel Levitin

March 10th, 7:00pm also at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

What will all that music at the Festival do to your brain? Daniel Levitin is the author of This Is Your Brain On Music. He has studied Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience extensively and will be speaking on the effects of music to our brains. It sounds like an interesting discussion, and certainly complements the other acts.

Entertainers Cirque de la Symphonie

March 14th, 7:30pm at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

This act is a combination of visual performances such aerial flyers, acrobats, dancers, contortionists, set to music. Similar to the famous Cirque du Soleil, it will be sure to stimulate the mind, and test the limits of the amphitheater!

Most performances will be at the Amphitheater, but several others will take place at the Boca Raton Cultural Arts Center. Tickets and more information on all the events are available on the festival’s website.
